Charging Your Volkswagen EV

Welcome to EV charging and your I.D 4

Your recently acquired Volkswagen ID.4 stands as a beacon of innovation, embodying eco-friendliness and a modern design ethos. As an electric vehicle, its distinctive feature lies in its charging mechanism, diverging from traditional gasoline-powered vehicles.

The Volkswagen ID.4 offers three primary charging methods, each varying in speed and convenience: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3.

Level 1 Charging

Utilizing a standard 120-volt AC outlet, commonly found in homes, this is the simplest charging option. It's the slowest method but doesn't require any special equipment or installation. With Level 1, your car gains about 5 km of range per hour. As of 2024 your ID.4 will come with a Level 1 charging cable.

Level 2 Charging

These stations use a 240-volt system, akin to what large household appliances like ovens and dryers use. You can install Level 2 stations at home or find them in public spaces like malls and office buildings. They offer a quicker charge, providing about 50 km of range per hour and fully charging your vehicle in around 8 hours.

We recommend every client who purchases an EV ensure they are able to install a level two charger at home for ease of charging and managing your battery levels. You will need to purchase a “2-in-1 Mobile EV Charge Cable which allows you to plug your ID. 4 into a 240-volt or a 120-volt as needed. These are currently priced at $536 and can be purchased from our Parts Dept.

Level 3 Charging (DC Fast Charging):

For rapid charging, turn to Level 3 public stations, also known as DC Fast Charging. These stations can add approximately 100 km of range in just 10 minutes, thanks to their powerful 350 kW output. They're typically located along major highways and in urban areas.

As a perk, Volkswagen electric vehicle owners can access up to four years of unlimited charging at Electrify Canada's expanding network of Level 3 chargers.
